Hi,

I am designing a power supply using LM5119Q. I want the outputs of the two channel to be 27V, 1.6A and 38V, 4.3A. I am simulating the same using Tina-TI software. But, I am not able to set the proper analysis parameters for the simulation and the simulations would not converge. I tried using the 'Transient Convergence Solutions.PRM' parameter file. In this case, the simulation would provide the wrong results.

I have the attached the schematic for your reference. Please help me with this.

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I'm designing my power supplies using TI webench power designer. I have three chips which use 1.8V. I would like to have one switching regulator for all these three chips to be able to switch ON and OFF these loads independently. i don't know how to make this give me switching regulators. Please help.

additional questions: im using TI MCU. is there anyway i can insert the exact MCU into the power designer? there is option to select FPGA load but there is no option for MCU load.

I am getting differences in the simulation when using single-supply vs dual supply.

I tested with the THS4271, and OPAx828 TINA-TI Spice Models.

The OPAx828 shows the same gain/phase results for single supply and dual supply.

The THS4271 shows strange results for single-supply, and strange phase for dual-supply (but good gain)

I compared these "open-loop" simulation results with the datasheets, and the OPAx828 is perfect in line with the datasheet.

The THS4271 just seems...wrong. Like there is a problem with the SPICE model.

What do you guys think?

Hi TI Team, 

the manual of the TPS55165-Q1 shows an application for the 12V-fixed version in which the PG Pin is connected to an external 5V power supply via an 100kOhm resistor. 

I have this setup on my PCB and the output only BUCK-BOOSTs to 10V at 6V to 14V input and only BUCKS to 12V at 15V input.

In contrast to that, the WEBENCH tool suggests that the PG Pin should be connected to Vout = 12V.

Which configuration is the right one?

I watched with great interest comparison video  between Phase Shifted Full Bridge & FB-LLC --- done a while ago by someone at TI

Let us recast some conclusions in light of superb performance of LLC by many new controllers.

#1 the comparison does not mention any output inductor. This is a significant drawback- of any topology which has to handle very low current to high. In a world of GaN devices, the size of any DC inductor will kill the compactness of any product. Not to mention huge loss & then damping one has to do. For small ac ripple filtering, a small inductor can be easily accommodated.

#2 It says that LLC topologies have penalizing output rms  &  ripple and require 9 times more output capacitor. In my model( obtained from mathworks public repository of models in Simulink), & in many of TI's LLC design guides, this does not appear to be true. Especially for high power case of Interleaving & with SR, without the need for DC inductor, LLC  appears to be very competitive.

#3There are key failure modes in PS-FB topologies which is a serious drawback. Also not mentioned.

#4  ZVS is very hard to extend and hard switching is a nuissance.

One thing is very well discussed is the inability of LLC to be synchronized and variable frequency control. I do not know about audio applications, this has not been a problem in my experience in very critical application we handled over decades.

SO unless sync is a requirement, I would proceed with our plans to implement all GaN HB LLC using UCD3138.

Any contrary reviews will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

Can you suggest me a way to design a cree LED in Tina-TI for its simulation purposes. The part number of LED is MHBAWT0F0BD265E. 

When I was trying to design I came up with such parameters:

Saturation current : 0.1

peak Wavelength = 455nm

Energy gap = hc/lambda = 2.73eV

Max frwd current = 350mA

Typical frwd current = 180mA

Max Power distribution = 7W

Now if I try to find serial resistance, since cree led does not have a linear graph of current versus voltage, I cannot find resistance. More importantly Cree led has current = 0 at 16V and 180mA at 18V. Therefore I don not need a linear graph. Thus even after changing emission coefficient, though threshold can be made 16V but linear graph is not changed and I am unable to get 180mA at 18V. 

Can you please help?

Is this a correct design of my circuit for the  parameters? Is it possible to combine tantalum capacitors and ceramic capacitors at Cout ? (see in the picture) Tantalum capacitors have a higher ESR compared to ceramic capacitors (here: 500 mOhm at TANTAL). Is this still realizable?

Do you have any suggestions for improvement? The design should be as compact as possible and not too large (height max. 4.5 mm).
